The Cultists
I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping,
that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly,
and whose glory is in their shame,
who mind earthly things. (Philippians 3:18-19).

uasi-Christian groups whose doctrine deviates from the fundamental tenets of historic Christianity—particularly in the area of Christology—are called cults. Most cults build their belief systems around a single individual whose writings are deemed inspired—or nearly so, in some cases. Mormons look to Joseph Smith, Christian Scientists to Mary Baker Eddy, Jehovah's Witnesses to Charles Taze Russell, and so on.
Most modern cults echo the errors of ancient heretics. Jehovah's witnesses are simply latter-day Arians, and Christian Science is a variety of Gnosticism. The proliferation of new cults in recent years mirrors the rampant varieties of Gnosticism in the second century.
All cults have this in common: they deny the biblical doctrine of justification by faith.
